Azadari is name of the practices related to mourning and commemoration of the anniversary of the death of Hussain ibne Ali (A.s)
at the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH (680 AD) particularly in period of Muharram (in the Indian sub-continent Muharram in the context of
remembrance of the events of Karbala means the period of two months & eight days i.e. 68 days starting from the evening of
29 Zill-Hijjah and ending on the evening of 8 Rabi-al-Awwal and in general round the year.
Every Shia on this earth gives more priority to Azadari of Imam Hussain (A.S) then his own life.
Each and every Shia is identified by the Azadari of Imam Hussain (A.S). A Shia can face any
problem related to his life but if it comes to the azadaari then it is intolerable for him.
The reason behind this fact is that Imam Hussain (A.S) not only sacrificed his life but also
sacrificed the life of his beloved family members and companions just for the sake of humanity
and to teach the world, the lesson of humanity. So every human being who knows and respect
humanity will surely give respect and priority to azadari more than his life.
The important fact about azadari is that it is not only practiced by Shia Muslims but also by other
sects and religions with pure love and dedications. Echoes of Azadari can be heard from every
part whether it is large city or small town. In fact in small villages also it is practiced with
full dedication. Gopalpur is also among such place where Azaadari is practiced with dedication
and high spirit.
Gopalpur is famous village in Siwan district situated in Bihar state. Gopalpur is birth place of
many great personalities who have dedicated their whole life in perusing religious studies and
preaching Shia belief around the world. They have enlighten the name of Gopalpur at global platform.
In fact this place was always the centre of Islamic literature. These people have also put strong
foundation of Azadari and done organized arrangement for future years to come.
Normally Shia from all around the world go to their hometown to practiced Muharram as they have
special attachment to their hometown specially during first 10 days of Muharram. Similarly
people of Gopalpur also take leave from their job and education and reach the village from
different parts of India and world. During Muharram the place is filled with all the people.
Their mourning faces reflects the love and affection towards Imam Hussain (A.S).
